Women and humor

The topic of women being funny has gone on for ages, more so now because women can be more outspoken.  But I still do not understand why people are still talking about it.  Who cares if/why women are funny?!  I do not really care either way.  What bothers me is when people are extremely closed minded about if women are funny or not.  To me, people need to see both sides of the story before coming to any sort of conclusion.  And Christopher Hitchens did not do that.  It seemed like he has a prejudice towards women and why they can't be funny, at all.  When he said that a woman doesn't need to be funny, she's already attractive, that was super sexist in my mind.  For me, being funny isn't about being more attractive, it is just something that is natural, or maybe it's just my lack of a filter.  I don't try to be funny, is what I'm trying to say.
But there are also some people who just try way too hard to be funny, and that makes them less funny.  And I do think that some comediennes are not funny because they want to make jokes about female issues.  I don't want to hear jokes about periods, or child birth, or why men are stupid.  I already know all about periods, child birth is the woman's fault for not getting the epidural and suffering, and not all men are stupid.
That is why I think Tina Fey, and Ellen DeGeneres are so funny.  Ellen made fun of Sophia Vergara when her dress split, and Tina Fey did a killer impersonation of Sarah Palin.  Sure Ellen is a bit more masculine, but she is still one of the funniest women I know.  And, neither one of their acts is about "female problems."
