It is so easy for people to judge others when they don’t have
any knowledge of the lifestyle of the person being judged. Looking in on Tupac’s
life and hearing his lyrics, yeah one may think that he is vulgar and out of
control and that he promotes gain violence, but it’s truly a way of expression.
Many people express emotions in different ways. The way that Tupac chose to
express his, was through his lyrics. The life Tupac lived wasn’t something that
many people who critiqued him seen every day, but many African American young
adults lived the same exact lifestyle as him. With the help of his lyrics many people
used his words to understand how to face the struggle. Yes, there is a way to
be helpful without the cuss words and violence, but he was making the situations
real life. He used his lyrics to reenact certain situations to them in song and
passing them on to other young men and women who may have been experiencing the
same thing. It may have been very easy for religious people and critics to shun
Tupac for his way of doing things, but I believe that it’s just because they
never had to go through half of the things he went through growing up. Being
raised by a mom who works and still having to receive welfare and the fact that
she was a crack fiend added to the madness, having no father, and the only men
you could look up to in your life were the thugs who took you in and helped
raised you. The lifestyle that he lived was all that he knew and the only thing
left for him to do was to make it through the best way he could. There were
certain ways that you had to handle situations to be able to make it in the
cruel world he lived in. Many people even today use Tupac’s lyrics as
motivation, as an inspiration to note that even if a man in his circumstances can
see the good and try to do better than they should be able to as well. People depict
things differently and everyone is entitled to have their own, but I do believe
that is important for people not to be so judgmental about situations they may
or may not understand completely.
