Excited Over Followers?

Is it strange that I get slightly excited when I get a new follower on Twitter? I feel like the majority of people wouldn't care at all, but I'm actually quite pleased when someone new follows me on Twitter. Does anybody else feel like that? Or maybe I'm just weird. But the more I start thinking about this, I can't help but think 'I can't be alone on this'. I've concluded that there's gotta be other people out there that legitimately enjoy gaining a new follower. But why would they feel like this over a simple social media connection? I think people enjoy getting followers because it might make people feel like their voice wants to be heard. Twitter, after all, is a giant collection of voiced thoughts. But the fact that someone followed you really could mean that their interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions on life matters. There's a part of me that really thinks that I'm making this blog way too deep, but there's another part of me that really does want to know why people are so secretly happy to get followers. Perhaps another reason is that the more followers one has, the higher up in status they are. There are all sorts of celebrity Twitter accounts that have millions of followers. Do people feel like they are one step closer to becoming a celebrity when they gain a new follower? Again, just a thought. I think that the emergence of new followers makes people feel important. In my opinion, people feel like they are wanted. At the end of the day, it is important to realize that Twitter doesn't really make you any more special or important. But then again, I guess you could argue that it does. If enough of your tweets are retweeted for others to see, your voice and thoughts could be read by a lot of people. And if those people happen to respect your tweets, maybe they'll look up to you as some kind of leader. I think that its possible that some people can be really inspired by certain tweets. There might even  be times when people are influenced by someone's tweet, and they don't even know it. Sometimes I'll remember a random fact about something and then I realize that someone tweeted about it, and thats how I knew it. I would really like to perform a study that measures the influence of people's tweets and the impact that they could actually cause. Overall, back to my original topic, why shouldn't you be excited that someone followed you? Its not something that's wrong or right, and everyone feels different about certain things. Twitter has really transformed the social media world, and I'm pretty sure our lives would be very different without it.
