Business and Social Media by J. D. Purdie

A few days ago my Mother asked me to make here a Facebook page for her business. After I agreed I would do it I started doing a little research. First I started looking at the Company pages that I had already "liked" then I looked at others that I hadn't liked but were still really popular. Then I began looking at company twitter and Google= pages and I began to think about the merger of these of the corporate world and our social world. The first quest I thought about was should businesses have Facebooks, but soon after I began thinking why shouldn't they have Facebooks. For a small business just starting out and with not very much capital, they might not have enough money to get their name out by making T. V. Commercials or other forms of mass media. Social Media can also offer incentives to people who follow them diligently and like specific pages or post. And although there are many who may disagree with me I think that companies having the ability to create free social media pages is a benefit not only to the companies but to all consumers of products and social media. Social media sites like twitter and Facebook are people driven, meaning the more people that use it be better it gets. We saw this with the evolution of Twitter, how the company used what people were already doing in order to create a better product. I think that if more companies use their social media sites to better interact with their customers and potential customers then they have the potential to create an even better product than ever before.
