PATRICK TILLMAN
I was amazed at how the football player Pat Tillman
left what he loved most, which is football just to serve our country. I had to
do some research on this and how the media portrayed his death. I think that it
was absolutely horrible how the media lied about his death, and they still proceeded
with the story. The way the media portrays stories is quite unrealistic. They make
up what society wants to hear and turn it into a story that grabs the attention
of the viewers. With Pat Tillman, he played for the Arizona Cardinals as safety
and was one of the number one rookies in the league in 1998.He then left in
2004, soon after 9/11 and changed his lifestyle forever. I think Tillman was very bold, courageous, and
heroic to leave the NFL to serve the country. He turned down a contract offer of $3.6 million over three
years from the Cardinals to enlist in the U.S Army. He was killed by a friendly
fire, and the U.S Army covered it up and held it from his family. How could you
keep something like this from friends and family and the people that care most
about him? This is my first time hearing about this story and I was very
disturbed by it. With so much promoting for the U.S. Army and trying to recruit
young men, the ARMY is not all what the media makes it out to be. Of course its
great were helping our country, but when things happen and they try to hide the
truth, it affects the society/world around us. I hope the society gets better
as well as the media and how it depicts certain situations.

VIDEO GAMMING!
So today’s lecture really made me open my eyes to certain video games, and what I will be letting my future children take part in. One positive aspect I thought was valuable was it lets us accept failure, and gives us the options to keep trying again. In reality most people give up when failing at something, but with video games it keeps us motivated to keeping going after the winner’s spot. We want to feel that sense of accomplishment or achievement when we overcome certain obstacles. The four key components I learned from today’s lecture was number one the URGE OPTIMISM, which is that extreme motivation to want to play the game. The second was the SOCIAL FABRIC, how we like individuals better after we play a game with them. It helps build bonds and trust with one another. Third component was BLISSFUL PRODUCTIVITY, we are happier when working hard and being productive rather than sitting or laying around. Lastly, the EPIC MEANING which gives that attachment to inspired missions. Video Games are time consuming and I am not a fan of them, but I can say most males in the world play video games. The ones I see played most often are Call of Duty, (which a new just came out called “Black Opps”) NBA 2K13, and NFL. Crazy how we just did a lecture on gamming and a popular game just got realeased. I seen on the news that people were even waiting outside game stores, for the game. Fights were breaking out, and people were being bullied just for the game I guess you can say they encourage collaboration, confidence, and teamwork, but it also teaches a competitive style of communicating with one another, which males take part in everyday.

TELEVISION......THEN & NOW!
Ok lecture on Monday was very interesting. Growing up in the
late 90’s/early 2000’s we had plenty of shows that I can say exemplified GIRL
POWER. For example, That’s So Raven, Sabrina the teenage witch, and lastly
Lizzie McGuire. All of these shows have women playing teenage roles as
daughters, they were all in school, very social, and played the lead roles in
their show. I cannot say that they all rejected boys, but that was not their
main focus. All of these shows proved to
us that girls can have lead roles and how young women should value their
education. They showed young girls many valuable lessons and how to mostly overcome
fears. When I was younger that’s what I took from these shows. Girl Power is
all about embracing women and letting them have all control and power. Even
though society has changed and we start to see more shows such as BASKETBALL
WIVES, REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA, REAL WORLD and many more, the shows today do
not show or prove to us any Girl Power. The media shows what the people like
and in today’s society people enjoy watching shows that involve sexual intercourse,
drinking, and fighting. There is no way we can ever go back to the GIRL POWER
movement with things like that entertaining us. It not only affects us, but the
upcoming generations. We need to find the link between popular culture today
and GIRL POWER back then and tie them together in a way we can represent women
in a positive way as well as empowering others.

LATE PARASOCIAL RELATIONSHIP POST!!!! ( FORGOT PASSWORD) :(
So yes I know
I am completely late with this post, but I did not remember my password to log
in & blog the week of this lectures discussion. I have to express my parasocial relationship with BIG SEAN. I am
in LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE with the rapper Big Sean. Not only do I love him, I love
what he stands for, his music, and the city where he is from. He is from
Detroit Michigan, where my mother is from and I have family that resided in
Detroit. When I go to visit I absolutely have a great time. I would have to say
BIG SEAN is no ordinary rapper. He raps about his struggle and how he made it
to the top. Anybody can relate to that, because you have to come from something
to get where you want to be. BIG SEAN is a little guy but that does not stop me
from loving him unconditionally. I tweet him from time to time to tell him I
LOVE HIM and ill see him soon. Also everyday GOOD MORNING tweets. I also stalk his Instagram. Deep down inside BIG
SEAN has a place in his heart for me, and we both know its just a matter of
time before we are happily ever after. BIG SEAN is a hip hop rapper that not
only raps good, but his swagger is on top of the chart as well. I cant express
enough how much I love this man. I know I am late, but I had to get that off my
chest!!! (WHHHHOOOO) (takes deep breath and smiles)

PRINCESS CULTURE & ADVERTISMENTS
After watching today’s video in class, I’m convinced I get
have my instagram poses from advertisements. From the head tilt to all the way
to the body posture. Advertisements really do have a huge impact on gender
roles. I know if I saw a male with his finger in his mouth, I would be suspect
about it. Looking back at GUESS ads from the 1900s to now, with the picture down below, it caught my attention due to the fact, the woman is the dominant and the male is the submissive. In class the video spoke about how it was the other way around, well unfortunately it can be seen both ways. The male looks as if he is helpless and vulnerable, while the woman is in full control and strong.
Going back to Wednesdays lecture on the princess culture, I had to google Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique where i can find wedding dresses, rings, hair stylist, make-up, and etc. for little girls. This is what i found!!

I am amazed at all of this, I would definitely want to visit one day, or take my children (when i have some) 1 day. It really gives little girls a chance at really being a princess.they even have the Disney Princesses, such as Ariel ( The little mermaid) and Snow White doing the make-up. This shop looks like a real salon. I wonder how much it really cost to have your daughter made into a princess. It is a great experience for little ones, Disney world should consider having a place where you can turn little boys into superheros.
Lastly, i wanted to touch on children's advertisements and the words they use to commit us to buying their -products. One great example I found was the X-BOX 360.

A example for young girls,

The easy bake oven is a classic for little girls, with this ad they use words/phrases such as ULTIMATE OVEN, which makes it sound like its better than before. Also the phrase BIGGER BATCHES, and the pictures of delicious sweets draws little girls attention right in.
