S.A.D. (Standard American Diet)
(Reposted with label)
S.A.D. Diet (Standard American Diet)
Almost all of us are part of S.A.D, or the Standard American Diet. Great name, huh?
If you were to list the factors that increase the risk of cancer, heart disease, stroke, intestinal disorders – just about any illness – the standard American diet has them all:
-High in animal fats
-High in unhealthy fats: saturated, hydrogenated
-Low in fiber
-High in processed foods
-Low in complex carbohydrates
-Low in plant-based foods
The striking fact is that cultures that eat the reverse of the standard American diet – low fat, high in complex carbohydrates, plant-based, and high in fiber – have a lower incidence of cancer and coronary artery disease (CAD). What's even more sad is that countries whose populations can afford to eat the healthiest disease-preventing foods don't. The United States has spent more money on cancer research than any country in the world, yet the American diet contributes to the very diseases we are spending money to prevent.
The sad, sad truth about Cancer research is that the money isn't being used like they tell us it is. They want us to believe that these funds are being used to find a cure of Cancer. Well the cure is already here for many types, and they are not interested. They have no intention to cure Cancer. They only want better ways to fight the symptoms and making living with Cancer easier. They cannot make money off of healthy people. The medical industry makes huge amounts of money off of Cancer and patients fighting it through radiation treatments and chemotherapy.
If they really want to fight Cancer, (the number 2 cause of death for both male and females in the U.S.) they will start with what we eat. The FDA and the medical industry do not work together on this. They are not concerned about the prevention of diseases, only how to treat the symptoms.
GMOs
(reposted with label)
GMO
We discussed GMO's a little bit during class discussions today. For those who are not familiar with them, I suggest checking into it. California for example, is now trying to pass a bill to require all foods containing GMO's to be labeled accordingly.
This is not a new idea. China, Japan, New Zealand and Australia are just a few amongst many countries that require it throughout the entire country. The U.S. really needs to mandate such things as well. It starts with us, the people to speak up and demand it.
Monsanto is biggest company behind GMO, and they are going to do everything in their power to keep making major profits off of their cheap, unhealthy and hidden poisons. Monsanto is the biggest company preventing the labels from being added through their lobbying. Let it be known that Monsanto is also the inventors of Agent Orange, the chemical warfare used in Vietnam to kill all of their food supplies and to cripple their economy. Agent Orange causes terrible birth defects and is still affecting families decades after the sprayings. Monsanto is an evil corporation.
It is Halloween season and if this isn't the scariest thing you'll see this month, then I would be shocked.
I'll leave you with this:

Gay Senator and Marriage Equality
Last night we elected the same president. However, we did elect a new Senator.
Tammy Baldwin won the Senate seat in Wisconsin to become the first U.S. Senator who is openly gay. She believes in voting for equality and equal marriage rights.
Speaking of which, 32 times marriage equality for gays has appeared on a state ballot. Every single time it has been shot down though. Last night Maine, Maryland and Washington became the first states to approve same sex marriage, breaking the 0-32 losing streak.
So now, Maine, Maryland, and the state of Washington will join Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Iowa, Vermont, New York, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia in allowing two consenting adults to get married, regardless of sexual orientation. This is definitely a good push in equality. An easy concept that is sadly hard for some to grasp. Some people just only care about themselves.
Also, in Minnesota, anti-gay activists pushed an amendment to the state constitution to solidify a ban on marriage equality, and as of this morning, the equality appreciative voters rejected the amendment.
It wasn't long ago that this issue was an automatic win for the right at the ballot box. As the arc of history bends towards justice, it's a new, more progressive day.

Candidates Who Represent you
Going along with what I
just posted about how you should inform yourself before you vote, I urge you to
take this quick and easy quiz online that might help you figure out which
candidate best represents you.
www.isidewith.com
Over 5 million people have
taken the quiz to understand which candidate they agree with most on. Finding
a place to start your research can be really tough because every news outlet
says different things and claims to be correct.
I side most with Ron Paul,
and then followed by Gary Johnson. They both agree on a lot of topics and
I see eye to eye with them a lot of the time.
My job isn't to convince
you! Only you can make a decision and form an opinion for yourself. I'll try to
give you some of my reasonings though in supporting Dr. Paul. I'm sure you have
done some research, but try to read about his policies and history from an
un-biased source. The mainstream media never gives him credit where it is more
than do. Every once in a while you'll see true light shed upon him. He
consistently has told the truth and has consistently voted for things that follow
our Constitution. No other politician has consistently had the best interest of
the citizens of this country put first. I think he is the most honest
candidate, and for me, that says a lot. He won't slowly and secretly strip us
of our rights. Also, look back on his predictions of 9/11 and why he voted to
impeach Clinton. It wasn't for some media glorified sex scandal. He did because
at the same time Clinton ordered to bomb the middle east without proper cause.
Something that apparently wasn't as important? (the same stuff is still
happening today). Also, he has served in the military, unlike most of the
others. That being said, 75% of active duty and veterans approve of
him. They know he has them as well as the other citizens in best
interest. The other candidates care about the banks and large
corporations. He doesn't want to start meaningless wars, and wants to increase
our National Defense. So instead of having so many troops scattered throughout
the world, bring many of them home and increase national security. We don't
always have to intervene, in fact, most countries hate it, and hate the U.S.
for that reason. I have many friends in various countries and they see things
that you and I can't. I'm just about equality and freedom. Sure, mostly everyone
says that... but not everyone lives by it. I try, and I think so does my
favorite candidate. Protect our Constitutional Rights, Audit the Federal
Reserve, get out of so much debt, increase the value of the dollar, and turn
this country around and bring it back to the standing that our Founding Four
Fathers would be proud about. Also, legalize Hemp growth and boost the economy
that way. That would create endless jobs, be a superior fuel source, and create
medical breakthroughs. End the war on drugs too. That is an obvious one for so
many reasons. These are some of the things I agree with him on. He might not be
perfect, but nobody is. However, I do believe he is the right man for the job
right now.
Just my 2 cents.
Research the Candidates by Shane King
November 6, 2012. This is tomorrow! Are You going to vote? This is your First Amendment! It is entirely your right to vote, or not to vote! Both are acceptable and both of them are right. You'll hear some people say that, "if you don't vote, you have no room to talk for the next four years against the elected candidate." Now this is a ridiculous statement that actually can go both ways.
Sure, I can see the point they are trying to get across, but after further thinking it fails to deliver sound logic. This logic is urging you to vote, which is great! However, a better statement would be, if you vote carelessly without doing research, then you are stuck with the candidate you vote for. Sadly, this is the kind of thing I see most often. People are voting for candidates because they think it is "cool" or that their candidate is a celebrity. Also people vote against candidates, not necessarily for a candidate. Many times someone knows they don't like the current president. So instead of doing research to discover some of the major opposing candidates are the same, or worse, they simply vote against the current way. Their campaign marketing tactics are working on you if you fall into this void. I urge you to do research on the internet from as many different sources as you can find. Some of the things you might come across will be extreme, some truthful and some not. Then you can venture out to see what is the truth to better inform your opinion and decision to vote or not.
Personally, I was leaning towards voting for Ron Paul this election because I feel he has the best interest for the widest range of citizens in mind. Unfortunately he is no longer in the running after he realized his last chances were being stifled. He wanted to speak at the 2012 Republican National Convention, but Romney's team said if he wanted a speaking spot, he would have to back and support Romney. Ron Paul said he would do no such thing because it would undue everything he has been fighting for in the past 20 years. Ron Paul's track record speaks for itself and to me, he has already won. He has awaken our generation to shape the future for the better. There is a Revolution building and I think more candidates within the next few elections will represent Us and Our country. This will be due to our demand for such candidates talking about the real important issues. This is the people's country, not the governments. Remember that!
